El objetivo de mi capítulo es mostrar una voz, bastante famosa y conocida, pero que aún no ha surgido en toda su complejidad y profundidad. Se trata del italiano Giannozzo Manetti, florentino que vivió entre 1396 y 1459, a la sombra de dos grandes reinos: el de los Médicis en Florencia y el de Aragón en Nápoles, ciudad en la que murió y en la que dio a luz los momentos más altos de su especulación, tal y como argumentaba Giuseppe Marcellino en su comentario al mismo Manetti, de filósofo proto-humanista. Filosofo que depositó en la corona aragonesa toda esperanza de salvación y renacimiento de los hombres. El texto que tomaré en consideración es el De Dignitate et Excellentia Hominis, escrito entre 1452 y 1453 durante su estancia en Nápoles, que se propone responder y ampliar las cuestiones trazadas algunas decadas antes por el De excellentia ac praestantia hominis de su compatriota Bartolomeo Facio.

The aim of my chapter is to show a voice, quite famous and well-known, but which has not yet emerged in all its complexity and depth. It is the Italian Giannozzo Manetti, a Florentine who lived between 1396 and 1459, in the shadow of two great kingdoms: that of the Medici in Florence and that of Aragon in Naples, the city in which he died and in which he gave birth to the highest moments of his speculation, as Giuseppe Marcellino argued in his commentary on Manetti himself, as a proto-humanist philosopher. A philosopher who placed in the Aragonese crown all hope for the salvation and rebirth of mankind. The text I will consider is De Dignitate et Excellentia Hominis, written between 1452 and 1453 during his stay in Naples, which sets out to answer and expand on the questions raised a few decades earlier by the De excellentia ac praestantia hominis of his compatriot Bartolomeo Facio.
