The process of establishing a minor seminary in the Diocese of Budweis in 1852 – 1853

This study deals with establishing the minor seminary in Budweis in 1852 – 1853, i.e. from the intention of Bishop Jan Valerián Jirsík to establish a minor seminary and the first steps towards project realization until the time before the opening of the seminary. This seminary became one of the important formation and education centres in the Diocese of Budweis for many decades. This founding was one of the first significant actions of Bishop Jan Valerián Jirsík, which he implemented as part of his episcopal work to support the development of the spiritual life of his diocese. In addition to the bishop’s vision, it was made possible by the external ecclesiastical-political situation after the issuance of the imperial decrees in 1850, thanks to which the Catholic Church gained a much greater opportunity to manage its internal affairs on its own.
