El objetivo de mi trabajo es presentar e investigar comparativamente dos teorías medievales sobre la acción humana, las de Alain de Lille y Pedro Abelardo, ambos herederos de la concepción aristotélica de la acción, mediada por las interpretaciones de Boecio e impulsada teóricamente por Pedro Lombardo. Alano elabora, en el De Virtutibus et de Vitiis et de Donis Spiritus Sancti, una teoría ética basada en la acción guiada naturalmente por los vicios y las virtudes, estudiando estas últimas como motivación de toda acción. Abelardo, en el Ethica. Scito te ipsum, corrige idealmente el planteamiento de Alain y subraya la centralidad del ser humano, entendido como único árbitro de toda acción.

The aim of my paper is to present and investigate comparatively two medieval theories on human action, those of Alain of Lille and Peter Abelard, both heirs of the Aristotelian conception of action, mediated by Boethius’ interpretations and theoretically pushed by Peter Lombard. Alano elaborates, in De Virtutibus et de Vitiis et de Donis Spiritus Sancti, an ethical theory based on action naturally guided by vices and virtues, studying the latter as the motivation for all action. Abelard, in Ethica. Scito te ipsum, ideally corrects Alain’s approach and emphasises the centrality of the human being, understood as the sole arbiter of all action.
