The forest disturbances represent an important factor, which significantly influences the charakter of forest ecosystem. The aim of this study was to assess the spectral response of two types of forest disturbance using both thermal and optical remote sensing in the central part of Šumava National Park. The first disturbance type includes the stands affected by bark beetle (Ips typographus) outbreak during the last 20 years. The clear cut areas represent the second type of disturbance. When assessing spectral response of deforested areas using spectral indices it turned out, that clear cut areas show more significant change compared to the values of original living forest than decayed forest. Moreover, the change dynamic of clear cut areas and decayedforest is quite different: while the change was gradual in the case of decayed forests, the change was sudden in the case of clear cut areas.
