Ladybirds of Europe
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Ladybirds (the beetle family Coccinellidae) is a popular and favorite group of insects. There are several books about this family, both for specialists-entomologists, and for naturalists without specific entomological education. There are various web pages with overview of ladybird fauna in several European countries with nice photographs. But there was no field guide or pictorial atlas covering all species in all European countries. The book Ladybirds of Europe is thus intended for wider public interested in nature in Europe, including some areas / islands that politically belong to Europe but representing geographically distant territories with many different species, including local endemics. Readers will find an updated information about distribution of individual species in European countries. While the descriptions of species are very short and simplified. The authors thank the referees – Johan Bogaert and Sami Karjalainen – for their contribution to this book and many entomologists and photographers who unselfishly shared their photos and made the book more informative. There are many small, rare species of which no photographs were available and thus we had to make their unique illustrations. Because no knowledge is accurate and complete, the authors will correct and add further information about ladybirds on webpage http://www.aphidophaga.org/ladybirdsofeurope.
