    The genus Cerura Schrank, 1802 is a well-known genus with a lot of literature so just some general references. The genus contains 15 species that are widespread in Palaearctic region, but also occurring in Pakistan, Northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Northern Myanmar and Northern Thailand (Schintlmeister, 2013). The highest diversity of the genus is observed in Middle and Central Asia. The adults are rather large or medium sized. The forewing color is white, grey or fuscous with many blackish, dark grey or fuscous fasciae and stripes. The abdomen is dark grey or blackish with transversal stripes. Male antennae are pectinated, those of female-shortly pectinated. Larvae are characterized by long bifurcated anal processes, modified anal prolegs called stemapods. Hostplants are various Salicaceae. Pupation takes place in the strong cocoon on a tree trunk. Nine species occur in Middle Asia: Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Cerura przewalskii (Alpheraky, 1882) are most common and widespread species. It occurs throughout Kazakhstan and the main part of Middle Asia including the Kyzylkum desert, Altai, Saur, Tarbagatay, Dzhungar, Tian-Shan and Alai Mountains. Cerura vinula (Linnaeus, 1758) known from North-eastern Kazakhstan, flies together with C. przewalskii, (Schintlmeister, 2008). Cerura hreblayi Schintlmeister, 2008 is from the Kopetdag Mountains in Turkmenistan. Cerura viidaleppi Schintlmeister, 2008 inhabits the tugay forests of the Amudarya and Pyandzh river basins. Cerura zolotuhini Schintlmeister, 2008 is widespread mainly in the Gissar and Pamir Mountains. Cerura amseli pamira Schintlmeister, 2008 is known from the Pamir Mountains and Cerura erminea (Esper, 1783) is known from North-eastern Kazakhstan. A new Cerura is described here after the examination of the set of Notodontidae moths collected by Dmitry Shovkoon in the Ugam Mountains (Southern Kazakhstan, West Tian-Shan). The set contained three undetermined Cerura mixed with five specimens of Cerura przewalskii (Alpheraky, 1882). The moths differ well externally from the latter by greyish color and prominently marked pattern of the forewings. The new species is apparently closely related to C. viidaleppi Schintlmeister, 2008.
