New finds of large Bylany culture graves in the Kolín region

The study presents the results of multidisciplinary analyses of finds from five large Bylany culture graves uncovered during an excavation along the route of the Kol &amp; iacute;n bypass road. In addition to pottery and metal grave goods, attention was devoted to anthropological and archaeozoological finds and residues of organic materials on metal artefacts. The structural qualities of the grave pits themselves, the composition of their inventory, and spatial relationships were also studied. The conclusions complement knowledge of burials in the eastcentral Bohemian territory of the Bylany culture and, with respect to the results of the excavation of several settlement components in the surrounding area, substantially expand information on central agglomeration at the crossroad of important travel routes. The agglomeration included a farmstead, several settlements, and at least four cemeteries, three with evidence of burials of elite individuals.
