This paper presents mapping and evaluation of recreation in cabins and country houses, gardening (within the meaning of working on garden-plots away from the place of residence), uncommercial tourism and hobby activities in the non-urbanized landscape inthe near and the nearest recreational zone of the city of České Budějovice (the South Bohemian metropolis with approximately 100,000 inhabitants; mentioned recreational zone or surroundings is situated within 15 km from the city outskirts). An emphasisis placed on spatial aspects (distribution and typology in an area, territorial conditionality), on present state (with regards to development) and on spatial developing problems (ecological, landscape, residential, urban-architectonical). A detailed field investigation of cabin settlements was realized in the study area between the years 2003 and 2006 (see Table 1, Map 1 and Map 2).
