Der Beitrag zeigt auf, wie sehr das Grammatikthema "Artikel" im Fach Deutsch als Fremdsprache sowohl in Forschung als auch in Lehre vernachlässigt wird, meist allein dadurch, dass es nicht ausreichend vom Thema "Genus" abgetrennt wird. Der Artikelgebrauch ist jedoch - insbesondere im Gegensatz zur Genusproblematik - ein semantisch sehr relevantes Kapitel der deutschen Grammatik. Empirische Untersuchungen belegen, dass DaF-Studierende - im Gegensatz zu wissenschaftlichen sowie Lehrbuchautoren - sich dieser Tatsache weitgehend bewusst sind.

The paper shall demonstrate, that the use of the article in German-as-a-foreign-language is rather disregarded by both research and textbooks authors. Above all, the important separation of article and gender subjects is extensively neglected not only byGerman-as-a-foreign-language teachers, but also in scientific as well as practical literature. But the use of the article is - especially in comparison to the gender subject - quite important even in a semantic way. However, empirical studies demonstrate that German-as-a-foreign-language students seem to be more aware of this fact than scientists and textbook authors do.
