Der Beitrag widmet sich dem Substantivparadigma, seinem Aufbau und seiner möglichen inneren Variabilität. Ist ein Substantivparadigma eine abgeschlossene Struktur? Hat es klare Grenzen? Das Thema wird am Beispiel diverser Randflexionsklassen dargestelltund mit einer DeReKo-Analyse illustriert. Konkret werden die Nichtfeminina behandelt, also die schwachen Maskulina und gemischten Maskulina und Neutra. Am Beispiel der Wörter Bauer und Dämon werden mögliche Wege des Sprachwandels aufgezeigt, die Mitglieder von diesen substantivischen Randparadigmen gehen können, um ihr Deklinationsparadigma dem Zentrum des deutschen grammatischen Subsystems anzupassen.

The contribution deals with the problem of the German nominal paradigm, its organization and potential internal variability. Can the nominal paradigm be understood as a closed structure? Can clear boundaries be drawn? These questions are studied with respect to specific German noun declension paradigms. These changes are researched through the methods of corpus linguistics in Deutsches Referenzkorpus. This paper focuses on the German 'weak' masculine nouns and 'mixed' masculine / neuter nouns. Their gender is, at a higher systematic level, determined as non-feminine, which is a very difficult characteristic for the organization of the German noun system. Using two examples, Bauer and Dämon, the paper explores the possibilities of language change, namely the different ways which the nouns of the untypical German declension paradigms can take in adjusting their inflection paradigms to the centre of the German noun system.
