Economic growth and resource productivity are interlinked and influence each other. Increasingresource productivity can support economic growth by allowing the economy to achieve higheroutput with fewer resources. One of the most important resources is energy. Energy efficiencyis measured using energy productivity. More efficient use of energy can reduce the costs ofbusinesses and thus increase their international competitiveness. The aim of the paper is toassess the role of energy productivity in the economic growth of EU countries. The analysiswill also look at the impact of cyclical development of economies. The analysis focuses on allcountries of the European Union. Improvements in energy productivity can contribute to bettereconomic and at the same time sustainable growth with less environmental impact. The studydoes not confirm the original assumption of a link between economic growth and energyproductivity. On the contrary, it showed that even during economic recessions, states increasedtheir energy productivity
