Aquaculture nutrition of perch and pikeperch: An analysis for European percid aquaculture
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Percid aquaculture in Europe, perch (Perca fluviatilis) and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca), is gaining momentum. Substantial knowledge gaps exist in aquaculture nutrition, research and development of European percid diets. We present an analysis to advance the food and feeding of European percids in the European recirculatory aquaculture system (RAS). The highest thermal growth coefficient (TGC) was predicted with the inclusion of crude protein (CP) similar to 54.5% (2nd maximum similar to 35%) at non-protein energy (NPE) level similar to 7.2 MJ kg-1 and at crude energy (CE) level similar to 17.08 MJ kg-1 (FCR wise). In addition, crude lipid (CL) level of 14.5-15.0% was predicted to maximize growth. A clear maximum for nitrogen-free extract (NFE) or carbohydrates and CE was not found for growth. Estimates of apparent digestibility of organic matter (78.5-85.2 %), protein (90.8-92.7 %), lipid (79-91.8 %), ash (38-62.9 %), and phosphorus (44-59.4 %) in percids can be classified as high. Percid ideal protein concept implies that methionine and histidine could be formulated up to 50 % of lysine within the protein. Protein sources such as fish, shellfish, poultry, insect, potato, and rice form optimum protein choices (>60 % protein utilization) for percid diet formulations. Some complementary protein sources are modeled and proposed to have maximized protein utilization for percids (e.g., combination of poultry, insect, and potato or rice proteins). Body size-adjusted feeding dose (1.7 % body weight day(-1) for 6 g fish or 0.6 % body weight day(-1) for 300 g; continuous dosing), temperature (17-23 degrees C), light regime (16 h day(-1), 125 lx, industrial white light), water turnover rate (1.2x tank volume h(-1)), and ketogenic-type diet (high protein-to-energy ratio: 20-25 g MJ(-1); high protein-to-carbohydrate ratio 3:1; non-protein energy dominated by lipids) are reportedly preferred feeding conditions in RAS. For non-protein energy, there is a lack of information on carbohydrate processing (e.g., net energy contribution by digestible carbohydrates, fiber tolerance, starch versus non-starch polysaccharide digestibility). High dietary lipid content seems favorable, even though percids have lean flesh. Knowledge gaps exist regarding the protein and lipid sparing effects in percids. Percid feed is currently a vacant market niche, instead, the trout, sturgeon and larval weaning feed(s) are being used by the RAS managers.
