Options for stabilizing potato production using drip irrigation under extreme weather fluctuations
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Water is a basic condition for life on earth. Water is strongest limiting factor in the growing of agricultural crops. The ensuing climate change characterized by high temperatures and drought in the summer negatively affects mainly potatoes. Like in 2012 even in 2015 this course of weather led to lower potato yields by up to 40 %. Possible and previously known solutions lie in the application of various elements of growing technology, especially irrigation (Badr et al., 2010). Literary sources also report, that supplementary drip irrigation of potatoes applied during the growing season significantly increases potato yield and yield of marketable tubers compared with growing potatoes without irrigation. The purpose of the study was to determine the needs and the results of the subsurface drip irrigation for early and medium-early potato crop grown in the potato production area of the Czech Republic in the 2016 (field trials with drip irrigation will continue in 2017 and 2018).
