The Czech Republic has reduced its large number of acute hospital beds and set targets for further reductions. Hospital costs have continued to rise, however, despite changes by the insurance funds in their contracts with hospitals. Cost-containment is being sought throught the introduction of funding that incorporates diagnosis-related groups.
