The paper ?The Development Trends in the Security Environment and Their Importance for Armed Forces? is dedicated to introducing selected fundamental characteristics of present day security environment, which are relevant from the point of view of security and mainly defence policy, and which have a direct impact on the area of planning and development of defence forces. The article outlines some of the trends in the development of the security environment (globalization, the increasing importance of human rights protection, decreasing importance of national states, non-military and non-state security threats and risks, the changing nature of armed conflicts, etc.).
