This paper deals with psychological (mental) resilience and with possibilities of resilience development in the army. Resilience can be understood as preparedness or the capacity of each individual to prepare for, recover from and adapt to demanding and stressful situations. The topic of this thesis – resilience development is actual and its importance is increasing in changing military environment. Aim of this work was to look at the concept of resilience and mental health training in NATO and several chosen countries and find out approaches, opinions and look at some existing programmes in this field that are implemented in the army. Another aim is to set a tone for the dissertation thesis that will proceed form this paper and will build on and deepen findings and conclusions of this work. Study of the NATO reports, global research findings, communication with several representatives in this field from NATO and private and non-profit institutions were used as a research method as well as participation on several resilience-building training programmes (Resilience Advantage Certification in USA and participation on SIY – Search Inside Yourself training from Google). First part outline changing military environment, the role of leadership, concept of resilience and training programmes in chosen countries. The second part is about methods that can develop and build resilience, scientific background, a technology that enables to measure changes and impact of the training. Last part is dedicated to the dissertation and describes dissertation aim, hypothesis, its structure, research question and summary of work benefits
