Passive Direction Finding Possibilities by Two-element Antenna Array for X-band

The paper deals with possibilities of passive direction finding (DF) by means of two-element antenna array. They are used two DF amplitude-based methods for direction of arrival (DOA) determination. The first method of DF is an amplitude monopulse method. The second method of DF is a digital method based on modified Butler matrix algorithm operation. The comparing of both DF methods possibilities is performed with using models of simple passive DF systems. There was made several mathematical models of both passive direction finders (of both amplitude DF methods) for a different spacing of used two antenna elements. In addition to there was made real measuring with experimental laboratory samples of both passive direction finders for X-band. The paper compares DOA determination mathematical modelling with the results of real measuring by means of both laboratory samples.
