The paper presents the requirements for exit English level at the University of Defence. Although the exit requirement for the English level is stated by the Ministry of Defence and language teachers are committed to respect it, the authors are aware ofthe indispensable role of needs analysis. The authors give their views on the advantages and disadvantages of the content of exit language requirements, as well as their correspondence with real-life language needs.
