Accidents and Emergency Events in Railway Transport while Transporting Dangerous Items

This article deals with an overview of emergency events that occurred in the transportation of goods on railways, namely hazardous items. It points out to relevant legislation and briefly describes selected emergency events from Czech Republic during 2010-2013. Afterwards, it evaluates the causes of these specials events. The most important factor of quality transport is security. When comparing railway transport to other means of transport, it is clear that railway transport is the safest. The lower total number of traffic accidents and loss of lives proves it. One of the advantages of railway transport is relieving the overloaded highways and roads. Railway transport thus improves continuity and security of transport on roads and improves security of people and goods, preventing them from damage or loss. From the economic point of view, railway transport is used more and more as it offers various discounts and services that attract consumers. The paper deals with the accident rate on railways while transporting hazardous items from the available data - from ČD Cargo, a.s. the largest Czech railway transport provider. The decision tree CHAID growing prediction model for accident risk was constructed with three class dependent variable. The received features obtained after analysis are presented.
