Simulation of the L-159 Alca Conducting Anti-Surface Air Operations in Support of a Battalion Task Group

The article presents simulations of close air support of ground units at the level of a battalion task force by Alca L-159 within an offensive operation on the territory of the Libavá military training area. The simulations were performed in the MasaSword simulation program, where a battalion task force attacked a defending tank company of ten T72B3 tanks, and each series of simulations was repeated 300 times. In this approach, statistical techniques were used to estimate the results of the operation based on the data generated by the simulation model. The success of air support was compared only with the use of air cannon, with the use of bombs and missiles, and with the use of all weapon systems. Furthermore, the effect of air support on the destruction of the enemy in terms of the speed of destruction and the number of deaths on both sides was compared. It has been proven that the use of aircraft L-159 to support the ground forces has reduced the time of destruction of the tank company by about 4 hours and life losses are reduced. The practical use of the acquired knowledge can be applied in the decision-making process of the ground commander whether to use for air support.
