Analysis of the introduction of Prague-Kbely Airport as an alternative airport for low-cost companies to Václav Havel Airport.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Nowadays, it is an undeniable fact that the cost of operating airplanes is increasing. Airlines are therefore looking for ways to save with the least possible impact on their operations and passengers. One option used primarily by low-cost airlines is the use of smaller local airports with lower fees compared to large international airports. Václav Havel Airport is considered a large international airport in Prague, and the nearest possible alternative airports for low-cost airlines are at least 100 km away. This article analyzes the possibility of introducing civil air transport to the Kbely military airport and thereby creating an alternative airport to Václav Havel Airport directly in Prague. A comparison of capacities, airport facilities with a focus on runway options and handling of Airbus A320Neo and Boeing 737 NG aircraft was carried out, and at the same time, airport fees for these types of aircraft were compared. The result of the analysis is that Prague-Kbely Airport has the capacity and possibilities to receive and handle aircraft of the specified types, and in the event that low-cost companies divert part of the traffic from Václav Havel Airport to Kbely Airport, the annual savings would amount to more than 50% with minimal impact on passenger comfort.
