Utilization of cold spray technology for the manufacture of ballistic protection
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This paper focuses on Cold Spray technology and its potential in the field of surface treatments for creating multi-layered ballistic protection in the defence industry. This technology is based on the principle of high velocity spraying of solid phase powder microparticles in the direction of the surface of the base material where the melting temperature is not exceeded. It is an innovative additive manufacturing process that enables the application of functional coatings of high thickness. The main objective of this study is to introduce technology Cold Spray as a coating method for creating ballistic protection compared to traditional thermal deposition methods. To create the coating, the powder Ti Grade 23 and the composite powder was chosen, which combined the matrix Ti Grade 23 with the reinforcing phase SiC. The coatings were deposited by using the system HPCS Impact 5/11. To observe the microstructure, the inverted optodigital microscope Olympus DSX 500 was used. The production of high hardness and strength coatings makes Cold Spray technology a perspective method for modernization of ballistic protection systems.
