The principle of a flood is the excessive spillage of water into the landscape outside of the river. This causes enormous damage to property, infrastructure and, unfortunately, also the loss of human life. In September of the year 2024, a devastating flood occurred, especially in the area of northern Moravia, when five people lost their lives, hundreds of houses were destroyed and the existing bridge structures on the road network were partially broken or lost. Based on a government decree, crisis teams were formed and units of the integrated rescue system were established to resolve the situation. The article deals with the principle of operation of reconnaissance engineer units, which are the first points of contact in the area to collect and evaluate information for the future construction of a temporary bridge.
