The article deals with the theme of information systems, their definition, and taxonomy. Information systems are divided according to relation to the management system of the organization at the three levels systems as: transaction processing, management information, decision support, and executive information. Next are the business information systems and the public information systems that are the core of the paper. Public information systems are free and available for public use, there are chosen seven areas of interest that correspond to the author’s priority and are useful for everyday activities, university work, research, publication, and study purposes.
