The workshop was organized to refine final details of the operational level wargame exploiting the “Operational Wargaming System” (OWS), agree on the game flow, individual roles of the members of the wargaming team, set up the wargaming room and run experimentally the game with the group of students of Mid-management Officers Career Course. The game was played with two groups of students playing two opposing actors, Red and Blue. Scenario and game set-up was fictional, using modified real-world map. During the initial session, the students were invited to select their roles of the operational commander, subordinate commanders and specialists. Chosen roles were maintained for the entire game. CZE wargaming team was in lead, Croatian wargaming team was mentoring, Dr. Engelmann supported the wargame as an advisor. Role of the facilitator as one of the most demanding roles in wargaming was performed as a joined activity of CZE and HRV wargaming team (MAJ Gernhardt, Mr. GALBA). Students displayed steep learning curve regarding the game rules. There was however a great room for improvement in strategic considerations.
