There exist many opinions on regional policy. Its fundamental is in reducing regional disparities. Many experts discuss if it is good to reduce these disparities, or if there are other instruments to do this. Nevertheless the European Union under the pressure of some member states decided to apply regional policy. Also the Czech Republic in the light of growing regional disparities, especially the unemployment, and the pressure of the European Union, decided to implement regional policy. This article deals with the evolution of regional policy in the European Union, and focuses more on the evolution of regional policy in the Czech Republic.
