The contribution deals with evaluation of the present status of rural tourism in the Czech Republic. The information is based on two inquiry surveys. The first is focused n the rural tourism providers and the second on their guests. Several hypotheses were formulated, following are proved: center dot The rural tourism in the Czech Republic has a big potential which is not fully used. center dot The quality of rural tourism is growing as well as the satisfactions of the guests and their interest in thistype of vacations. center dot The rural tourism has a positive influence on the unemployment rate, especially on the employment of women. center dot There are differences between the demand of potential guests and the present offer of services. center dot The demand for the countryside vacations is different for different socio demographic groups of tourists.
