The data do not support the argument that the health care delivery and its quality is deteriorating because the number of physicians per capita is declining. It turns out that, the number of physicians is actually steadily increasing from 1992. We suggest that the real problem lay in the professional ageing of physicians in the Czech Republic and its potential impact on the quality of the delivered care. We work with time series of age profiles in different physician specialties. The analysis uses datafrom the Health Information Institute and Statistics. We use existing studies on the relationship between clinical experience and quality of health care to assess the impact on quality of care.
