The aim of the paper is to compare the production capacity of Czech and German companies, where the primary business activity is the processing of sugar beet. The authors compared the daily processing capacities of the individual operations, classified the operations according to production capacity and figured out the affiliation of the operations to the companies. Four firm concentration ratio was used to identify the main actors on the Czech and German markets. This indicator informs about the market share of the four largest companies in the sector. Furthermore, a ten year time series in sugar production was created, on the basis of which it is possible to describe the development and to deduce the future trend. A partial finding is that Germanys share of total EU sugar production is 23,15 % compared to the Czech Republic, which contributes 3,48 % to total EU sugar production.
