Altogether 188 species were recorded in the study area, representing 49.7 % of the species known from the Czech Republic. About 70 % of all species found represent common or even ubiquitous species (A: 4 or 5). The most species found in the study area are Palaearctic in distribution (88 species, 46.8 %), followed by Holarctic (31 spp., 16.5 %), Cosmopolitan (20 spp., 10.6 %) and West Palaearctic (14 spp., 7.4 %). A much smaller proportion belong to temperate European species (6), European, temperate andSouth European and Eurosiberian species (7 in both) and temperate and North European and Palaearctic + Oriental species (4 in both). The findings of seven species represent first records in the Czech Republic, viz., Sphegina clavata, Neoascia unifasciata Trichopsomyia joratensis, T. lucida (published by MAZÁNEK et al 1999), Heringia (Neocnemodon) brevidens (previously published by BARTÁK 1995), Heringia (Neocnemodon) larusi (Štrbický vrch, May 22, 1994, 1>, sweeping - the species was de
