ALTOGETHER 15 SPECIES FOUND IN THE STUDY AREA REPRESENT 78.9 % OF THE TOTAL FAUNA OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC (93.8 % OF THE FAUNA OF BOHEMIA). IN AGREEMENT WITH DUDA (1930) AND OTHER AUTHORS, BUT IN CONTRADICTION WITH RECENT TREATMENT BY FREEMAN * LANE (1985)AND SKARTVEIT (1995), BIBIO LEPIDUS LOEW, 1871 IS CONSIDERED HERE AS A MERE VARIETY OF B. CLAVIPES MEIGEN 1818. IN CENTRAL EUROPE, AS ALREADY MENTIONED BY PECINA (1965C), THERE IS NO CLEAR DISTINCTION BETWEEN THESE TWO FORMS: SERIES OF SPECIMENS TAKEN TOGETHER IN THE SAME LOCALITY VERY OFTEN INCLUDE SPECIMENS MATCHING BOTH LEPIDUS AND CLAVIPES TYPES, AS WELL AS INTERMEDIATE FORMS. OF THE KNOWN SPECIES OCCURRING IN BOHEMIA, ONLY BIBIO POMONAE (FABRICIUS 1775), A MOUNTAIN SPECIES, WAS NOT FOUND IN THE STUDY AREA. PRACTICALLY ALL SPECIES RECORDED BELONG TO COMMON OR VERY COMMON SPECIES, BEING PALAEARCTIC OR PROBABLY PALAEARCTIC IN DISTRIBUTION (6 SPP., 40 %), FOLLOWED BY WEST PALAEARCTIC (3 SPP., 20 %), AND BOTH EUROPEAN AND TEMPERATE AND
