The comparison of growth ability of Aberdeen Angus and Hereford bulls in rearing house

The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare growth ability of breeding bulls of two beef breeds. Body measurement and ultrasound examination were used. Basic physical measures, height of subcutaneous fat, height, and area of the musculus longissimus lumborum et thoracis (MLLT) were measured in 2 groups of breeding bulls (23 bulls of Aberdeen Angus - AA, and 22 bulls of Hereford - HE) at 300, 330, 360, 390 and 420 days of age. Height in hips and width of lumbar region in the 1st and 6th vertebra were measured with a tape and Wilkinson?s trammel. Layer of subcutaneous fat (height) and the MLLT (height and area) in the 1st and 6th vertebra were measured by ultrasound examination. The general linear model in statistical program SAS STAT 8.0 - GLM was used for data analysis. Bigger physical proportions and also higher height and larger area of the MLLT were detected in group of AA bulls in every measurement (P < 0.01 ? 0.001).
