Urban Soil Contamination by Potentially Risk Elements
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Growing population in towns, industry and traffic have a high impact on the environment and human health. In this work, the pollution level of urban parks was studied, the influence of the type of pollution source and the effect of shading by trees was analysed. Soil samples were collected from the depths of 0?10 and 10?20 cm in 13 parks in two towns of the Czech Republic, in Prague, a town considered mainly residential, and Ostrava, a predominantly industrial town (steel working plant). Potentially risk elements (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu, As) were determined. Higher concentrations of risk elements were found under trees, compared to not shaded sites. Significantly higher values of Pb (mean 86 mg/kg) and Cu (mean 28 mg/kg) were found in Prague, due to traffic, compared to Ostrava, where Pb reached the mean of 41 mg/kg and Cu 18 mg/kg. Maximum permissible limits were exceeded in Ostrava parks especially with Cd, in Prague with Pb.
