Relations among ewes? nutritional status at mating and their subsequent reproductive performance
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of study was to determine relations among ewe?s live weight (LW, kg), body condition (BCS) or backfat thickness (BT, mm) at mating, and lambing rate (LR, %), litter size (LS, lambs) or total litter weight at birth (TLWB, kg) by correlation analysis. The number of 608 Suffolk ewes bred in 4 flocks was observed during a 2 year period. Ewes were weighed and their BCS or BT was evaluated subjectively or by ultrasound at the beginning of the mating period. Directly after lambing, the lambs (n = 930)were weighed and basic reproductive traits were assessed: LR, LS and TLWB. Statistical analysis was performed using SAS 9.3., CORR procedure. LW was correlated with all the reproductive traits (r = 0.211 to 0.247; p < 0.01). BCS did not correspond significantly to LR or LS traits, but it correlated signifi- cantly to TLWB (r = 0.101; p < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between BT and LR, while significant correlations (p < 0.01) were detected between BT and LS (r = 0.125) as
