The wedge prism is a tool for forest mensuration which in competition with other tools has certain advantages such as easiness, lightness and availability. Based on the principle of angle counting the wedge prism enables the calculation of basal area. The measuring in sample plots which are identified and marked easily in stands can be aggravated by mistakes coming from wrong usage of the wedge prism. It is needed to work carefully mainly in the determination of the trees lying on the borderline. For the volume calculating the ratio between actual (measured) and normal basal area is used instead of stem form.
