Carbon taxes are a key tool in addressing issues related to climate change. They have become part of the tool mix of environmental policy in many countries and are related to the green tax reform in reducing the impact of taxation. Carbon taxes are related to the carbon content in energy products and therefore carbon tax amount is expressed by the rate per ton of CO2. The aim of the paper is to compare carbon taxes in different countries, including coexistence with other instruments of environmental policy. Carbon taxes are often compared with greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme. In addition to the contribution to reducing greenhouse gases, carbon taxes help to reduce negative externalities in connection with the combustion of fossil fuels. Througha carbon tax resulting in an increase in energy savings, the impact of its application is mitigated. The introduction of carbon taxes is related to a number of problems. Governments, for example, often address its impacts and take compen
