La Llei 8/2005, de 8 de juny, de protecció, gestió i ordenació del paisatge de Catalunya (DOGC 4407-16/06/2005), crea el Cataleg de paisatge com un instrument nou per a la introducció d?objectius paisatgístics en el planejament territorial a Catalunya, així com en les polítiques sectorials. S?adopten, d?aquesta manera, els principis i les estrategies d?acció que estableix el Conveni europeu del paisatge promogut pel Consell d?Europa. Els catalegs de paisatge, tal com els concep la Llei del paisatge, representen una eina completament nova, que té molt pocs precedents a escala internacional. En aquest sentit, no existeix cap metode reconegut universalment per estudiar, identificar i avaluar els paisatges i la seva diversitat, tot i que a Europa hi ha unaimportant base de coneixement en aquest aspecte.

The law 8/2005, from 8 of June, makes from Atlas of landscape a new instrument for implementation of landscape objections into territorial planning of Catalonia and so as in regional policies. They imply, from that point of view, principles and action strategies embodied on Landscape Convention released by European Council. Atlas of landscape, as the Law of landscape, presents a completely new tool, which has not many precedents on international field. In that sense, it doesn?t exist any generally knownmethod for studying, identification and evaluation of landscape and its diversity, even though Europe has an important base of recognition in this aspect.
