Managing non-point soure phosphorus - a literature review
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Accelerated eutrophication has become a serious water quality problem worldwide. High concentrations of phosphorus in surface waters are a major cause of manifestations of eutrophication. Various control measures have been adopted, especially for point sources of pollution. Following successful reduction of point sources, attention has turned more to non-point sources. This review focuses on phosphorus originating from non-point sources, with emphasis on agricultural land use as a significant non-pointsource of phosphorus. Following a brief outline of the effect of land use on water quality and quantity, the review focuses on phosphorus sources, transport, loading into surface waters as well as the role of phosphorus in freshwater eutrophication. Thereview goes on to an overview of methods and approaches for phosphorus load estimation and a description of various phosphorus loss risk assessment tools. Finally, the review provides some general recommendations for phosphorus watershed
