THE IMPACT OF LANDSCAPE HETEROGENEITY ON THE DIVERSITY OF RUSSIAN?S FAR EAST BUTTERFLIES: A PILOT STUDY
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Butterflies are often used as a bio-indicator species, because they possess two crucial features of good indicator: Adults are very conspicuous and easy to observe, and they are very sensitive to the changes in environment. The main aim of our research was to study the impact of landscape heterogeneity maintained by a different type of management on the diversity of butterflies. The butterfly fauna of Russian Far East was studied in temperate broadleaf and mixed forests. Communities of two extensively managed areas (Veselyi Iar and Gornotaeznoe) with different landscape heterogeneity were studied in August 2014. At each locality, 10 baited traps were placed for 24 hours with fruity melon and malodorous squid bait, which were used concurrently, to maximize capture rate of trap. We tested the difference between diversity and abundance of butterflies at selected localities and we also tried to explain which environmental variables were the most important. We obtained 58 specimens (Gornota
