The case study was conducted in the years 2014 - 2015 on the site Klánovický Forest, the largest forest complex in the capital city of Prague, significant portions of which are registered as protected areas and Site of Community Importance of Natura 2000. In a segment, which is directly affected by the modernization of one of the main track sections, we monitored system of water pools belonging to a protected area. Railroad reconstruction made it possible to perform even major interventions into significantly degraded wetland ecosystem: unsuitable trees were removed, surrounding vegetation was thinned, shores cleaned. These interventions were done only from the body of the track as there was no other space available for the necessary technology. The treatment of the ecosystem included also a design and implementation of a dam preventing waterlogging of the railway track and also stabilizing the water level.
