In connection with the preparation of the Czech Republic for accession to the EU, its forest - related orientation is gaining importance. To address global forestry efforts presented by the UN Forum on Forests, the European Commission developed EU forestry strategy. This strategy proceeded from, among others, the resolutions of the MCPFE and is based on recognition of the necessity to maintain biodiversity of European forests, their multifunctional role and the need of sustainable forest management in ecological, commercial and social sphere. National and regional forest programmes are aimed at implementing the principles of sustainable forest management. In the Czech Republic national forest programme has been developing under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment.
