The paper focuses on the current development and future potential of the agricultural research in the field of alternative resources conducted by the Institute of Tropics and Subtropics. These research activities are the base for quality teaching students in the field of tropical and subtropical agriculture and represents a part of integrated natural resources protection. Results of the above research are put into practice by means of their applications within development projects specifically orientedon use and conservation of natural resources in the field of plant and animal resources and production of biomass as an important source of alternative energy. The research is especially directed to support the ?sustainable development of less developedcountries?. It is to say that ?Concept of Sustainability? addresses in a large extend the environmental issues and conservation of natural resources.
