Since 1990 the designers and architects Michal Froněk (1966) and Jan Němeček (1963) have been presented themselves under the “Olgoj Chorchoj” brand. They established a studio of the same name which has gradually expanded its design remit to include practical objects, interiors, exhibition installations and architecture. The book is a retrospective survey of Olgoj Chorchoj in a broader context of design and architecture recent history. Theoretical, scholarly conceived essays are complemented by the complete catalogue of their professional work. The first essay of the monography is dedicated to Olgoj Chorchoj’s design work, focuses on the genesis of Olgoj Chorchoj’s creative direction within the school instruction, the context of the post-revolution transformation and establishes certain concepts (socialist modernism, postmodernism and neomodernism) which are symptomatic of the designers’ approach.
