Die Studie widmet sich einem der bedeutendsten Kunsthistoriker des 19. Jahrhunderts, Anton Springer. Sie behandelt seine Biografie von seiner Geburt und seinem Studium in Prag bis zu seiner Tätigkeit an bedeutenden Universitäten in Deutschland sowie sein politisches Wirken im Jahr 1848. Sie befasst sich mit seinen bedeutendsten Werken über mittelalterliche, Renaissance- und zeitgenössische Kunst. Sie analysiert auch seinen Beitrag zur Entstehung einer autonomen kunsthistorischen Methode.

This study is devoted to Anton Springer, one of the most important art historians of the 19th century. It recounts his biography from his birth and studies in Prague to his work at leading universities in Germany, as well as his political activities in 1848. It examines his most important works on medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary art. It analyzes his contribution to the development of an autonomous art-historical method.
