Electrochemical nitrate reduction on copper modified palladium cathode
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Electrochemical nitrate reduction mechanism is strongly dependent on composition and pH of electrolyte and on cathode material. Strongly acidic or basic solutions were reported often in the literature. Only minimal studies deal with neutral or weakly alkaline solutions. This is caused by difficulties to keep stable solution pH during experiments. In present work 1 M solution of NaHCO3 was used. Palladium cathode was selected as one of the most catalytically active material with high selectivity to nitrogen as final product. Nitrate reduction was studied by voltametric techniques on rotating disk electrode. However, no electrocatalytic activity towards nitrate reduction of palladium electrode was observed. Also presence of another ions in solution did not show markable changes. Therefore, copper ions were added to the electrolyte because modifications of palladium electrode by copper are widely used to promote nitrate reduction activity. Significant increase of electrocatalytic activity
