Poster: Aspects of utilization of conducting polymers in the PEM type fuel cells.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this paper is to discuss main aspects of the application of Conducting Polymers (CPs) in the development of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) type fuel cells. Present state of the art of the fuel cells technology suffers from several serious problems, the most important being low catalyst utilization, catalyst sensitivity to CO chemisorption and membrane permeability to fuel. Several ways are proposed in the literature to solve these problems, one of them being the application of CPs.As it has been shown, permeability of CP to the methanol can be as much as three orders of magnitude lower. This highly positive aspect, however, has to be considered carefully. This is because of two aspects. First of all, we have to consider CP film permeabilityto methanol being closely connected with its permeability to the water. In this case formation of the CP barrier layer on the top of the membrane would result not only in the reduction of the methanol cross over rate, but also in a seriou
