The analysed matter concerns with possibility of high temperature desulfurisation of hot-coal-gas in coal power plants. The study deals with influence of physical and chemical properties of zinc oxide based sorbent for hydrogen sulfide removal from coal-derived gas. The sorbent was prepared by tablet formation and following thermal treatment of two commercial available zinc oxides. The diference between those was mainly the amount of basic zinc carbonate which is the precursor for its production. The influences of the tablet pressure and the calcination temperature on its textural properties were observed during this pre-treatment. At same work conditions two samples of zinc oxide with considerably different textural properties were prepared this way.The kinetic measurements were carried out with both samples of the sorbent and the model gas mixture of hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen and nitrogen in the laboratory apparatus containing the isothermal flow reactor.
