The study of decelerating effect during reaction between limestone and dilute sulphuric acid

Neutralization of waste sulphuric acid by limestone is used in many chemical productions. It is very important operation from the ecological point of view and the product which may form in the process could be additionally put to use. The course of chemical reaction is quite complex and consists of several partial steps. Dissolution of calcite particles in sulphuric acid represents the first one and this step consequently affects the others. The objective of this contribution is the study of effects which occur during reaction between limestone and sulphuric acid in the stage when the stable solid product is not yet formed. All experiments took place in the semi-batch isothermic agitated reactor with monofractions of limestone particles at constant concentration of sulphuric acid. Reaction conditions were chosen in a way that the quantity of calcium sulphate dihydrate forming as a product was below the substance solubility and still the solid product does not form.
