Microscopic Analysis of Cement Clinker
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Cement clinker forms the main constituent of most cement types. From the cement kiln, it is obtained in the form of sintered lumps of material. Limestone and clay are typical initial materials for cement production. Both black coal and certain alternative fuels (incl. biomass, scrap tyres and other solid and liquid waste fuels) are used for heating the kiln. The process of cement firing, deemed to be the most critical part of cement production, is conducted according to a preset temperature curve having a maximum at approx. 1 450 °C. The final product, Portland cement, consists of a finely ground mixture of clinker and other components, including gypstone, slag, power plant flue ash, etc. The size of clinker lumps ranges from 1 to 25 mm on average. In addition to other analytical methods, clinkers are investigated on a running basis by microscopy – materialography, from the following three main points of view: 1) cement quality control, 2) troubleshooting of production issues and 3) monitoring the influence of production process modifications.
