Structure and Properties of Flavins
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Flavins and their derivatives are important biologically active compounds, which have found application in artificial systems due to their unique redox and photochemical properties. In addition to natural flavin derivatives, many artificial analogues have been recently used to design and tune flavin-based systems. This introductory chapter aims to introduce most members of the flavin family and their properties, with a special focus on their redox and acid-base behavior, reactivity towards nucleophiles and electrophiles, and non-covalent interactions. Additional introductory information can be found in the next two chapters dealing with flavin derivatives relevant to biological systems (Chapter 2) and spectroscopy of molecules from the flavin family (Chapter 3).
